In this article we want to have a closer look at the playable heroes in Kelepar, their attributes and functions within the game.

The heroes

Initially, Kelepar will have 32 different playable heroes. Upon account creation, players will receive a free set of common heroes. It’s important to us that anyone interested in the game gets the chance to play and experience Kelepar for free. The free-to-play model has proven to be highly successful in traditional gaming. In our opinion it is perfectly viable in blockchain gaming as well. To enable more strategic flexibility and facilitate different play styles, players can then unlock additional heroes within the game and add them to their parties. They can do so by buying said heroes or by grinding the game and saving up rewards. The additional heroes have four different rarities: uncommon, rare, epic or legendary.
All Kelepar heroes are NFTs. Some of you might be wondering how this works if there are only 32 different heroes. We’ve described in depth why and how we use NFT tech to revolutionize gaming and improve the players’ user experience in this article.

The attributes

Faction

Each hero aligns with one of the three factions that wrestle for power over the planet Kelepar — the native Doth’Rin, the United Human Nations and the religious fanatics from Imperio Dei. Each of these factions has its own unique ways to fight. The Doth’Rin rely on stealth tactics involving poison and the use of Kelium to manipulate the elements. The U.H.N. overpowers their opponents with the firepower of their advanced weapon technologies. And finally Imperio Dei makes use of holy and fire abilities. Combining or countering these different characteristics cleverly will play an important part on the players’ path to victory.

Classes

Heroes are assigned to one of four classes depending on their weaponry and playstyle. Warriors charge head-on into battle armed with rifles or melee weapons and often carry heavy armor. Specialists bring huge battlemechs or beasts to battle. They tend to be slower but tanky and sturdy. With stealth tactics, poison and long-range weapons the fragile Assassin’s inflict vast amounts of damage to their targets. Fanatics use the power of Kelium to unleash supernatural abilities.

To add another strategic layer to gameplay and party creation, the different classes interact with each other in a rock, paper, scissor system. When a hero damages another hero of the class it counters, the damage dealt will be increased massively.

Attack and life points

Attack and life points are the core stats of every hero. The attack points define how much damage a hero deals in melee combat as attacker or attacked hero alike. The life points define how much damage a hero can take. As soon as a hero’s life points are reduced to zero, it dies and is removed from the battlefield.

Abilities

Besides melee attacks, heroes have a unique set of abilities they can use in battle. These abilities include ranged attacks, supernatural powers, healing abilities, buffs to your other heroes as well as debuffs to the opponent’s heroes. Each ability has a speed assigned which defines the order of execution. The faster an ability is, the earlier in the turn it will be executed. At the beginning of the battle, player’s will have to choose three abilities for each of their heroes. Rarer heroes will have a bigger set of abilities to choose from and hence offer players more strategic possibilities and options to react to the opponent’s strategies. This makes the rarer heroes more versatile and easier to combine in parties.

Levels

As players battle with their heroes in the PvP arena and the PvE story mode, heroes will earn experience points and level up. With each level the player gets the chance to improve the hero’s stat line or abilities. As rarer heroes have more different abilities, they will need more levels to be fully upgraded. Leveling up heroes is one of the ways how players can make their heroes more valuable and thus capture the value of the time they’re spending on the game.

Card borders

Heroes that have been involved in a large number of victories in the PvP arena will be rewarded with special card skins. First the card of a hero will turn golden and later on, after even more wins it will turn into a diamond version of the card. This will give players that love to collect unique skins for various heroes loads of content to grind for and additional ways to make their heroes stand out.
