Gaming and NFTs are a match made in heaven. Unfortunately, NFT tech doesn’t enjoy the best reputation among gamers and didn’t get the chance to truly shine yet. A misuse of the technology by blockchain gaming developers combined with wrong consumer expectations have led to subpar products. At Kelepar, this is something that we’re desperate to change. Here is how we will use NFT tech to open up novel possibilities and create unseen gaming experiences.

A big reason why blockchain gaming hasn’t caught on yet is a general misunderstanding of NFTs by users and developers alike. An NFT is a unique digital identifier that can’t be copied or substituted. This definition of uniqueness has led to the widespread idea that NFTs have to be visually distinctive. Projects like the famous Bored Ape Yacht Club are a great example of such collections. That’s what people came to expect and how NFT tech has been used in gaming. Players and NFT traders bought unique looking characters out of a collection that they then could use in a game to earn tokens. Such a simplified use of NFTs doesn’t do the technology justice though as it could be used for so much more. Any form of data can be recorded on the blockchain and made tradeable with the use of NFTs. And that’s exactly where this technology gets really interesting in the gaming sector.

As players progress through a game, they unlock new content and their characters earn experience points, gain levels, and gather wins. In traditional gaming all this grinding led to nothing more but mere database entries. NFTs on the other hand allow players to capture the value of such progress and trade it amongst each other. Facilitating such a player-to-player economy enables new monetization options and offers ways to improve the players experience. Using NFTs in such a way builds the backbone of sustainable blockchain gaming economies while making video games more exciting for the players and hence offer opportunities to build a loyal player base. If you want to read more about sustainable blockchain gaming economies and the role of NFTs in it, I’ve written a deep dive on this topic here.

This is exactly how Kelepar will make use of NFT tech. Our goal is to create a game that offers a highly strategic and competitive PvP experience. To enable a big variety of different strategies, Kelepar needs vastly different heroes with very distinctive abilities. To ensure balance in an environment with such diverse heroes and interactions between them, we have to limit the amount of heroes available. Hence we will initially only release 31 different heroes. Making those characters NFTs might seem counterintuitive at first. After all, they’re not unique, right? Well, they might not be when you buy them, but by playing the game, you will make them unique. Your heroes will earn experience points, gain levels and improve their state lines and abilities. Every game that you’ll win in the PvP arena with a certain hero will be recorded. After enough wins the hero will obtain a golden and later on a diamond card skin. We will use NFT tech to record all this progress and make it tradeable. Are you a player that loves exciting PvP battles but dislikes the grinding aspect of gaming? In Kelepar you can skip all the grinding by buying maxed out heroes from other players and go straight to battling other players in the arena to earn rewards. Are you a player that loves grinding quests and playing through the PvE story mode multiple times to explore the different decision trees? You’re in luck! On Kelepar all the value of grinding will be captured and stored on the blockchain so you can monetize the time you’ve been grinding. Whatever type of player you are, the way we implement NFTs into the game will allow you to maximize the time you spend on the aspects you enjoy most about the game.

Our heroes are the most central and exciting new way we implement NFTs into Kelepar. Limited edition skins and equipment to make your heroes more powerful will be available and tradeable as well. But there are even more ways we make use of NFT tech and leverage the synergies with our marketplace. NFTs from other artists will have a use case within Kelepar. Players can use NFTs they own as profile pictures, show them off to opponents during PvP fights in different ways and even use some as mascots to give bonuses to the entire party of heroes. By implementing NFTs from partnered artists, we want to give them the opportunity to add additional use cases to their NFTs and help them drive demand for their art. With this integration we can optimally use the synergies between the Kelepar Game and NFT marketplace to create more value for everyone involved and drive user adoption for both products.

People play traditional games because they’re extremely fun to play. Our vision is to implement NFT tech seamlessly into the highly successful concepts of traditional gaming and use the technology to improve the players’ experience. We’re convinced that with our implementation of NFT tech, we’re going to achieve exactly this vision and create one of the first blockchain games that manages to excite gamers.
