Story is a major part in any gaming experience. Besides the pre-story, the characters you play and interact with also have a crucial influence on the story you experience on Kelepar. In this article series we want to introduce you to them.

Kal’Mina

Fighting for money might not be the most heroic thing to do — but Kal’Mina is done with heroic bullshit like fighting for freedom against a seemingly unbeatable opponent anyway. As a mercenary she makes good money and lives better than most Doth’Rin.

Kal’Mina was a young Doth’Rin hunter that had just passed the trial of the hunt when the invasion started. Eager to fight the human invaders she went to war with her tribe. They executed a few successful guerilla attacks and inflicted heavy losses to the enemy. In one of these attacks Kal’Mina got shot in the belly. She was a tough warrior, but the agonizing pain brought her to the ground. Kal’Mina was convinced that her life would end here, lying in the sand, dying a heroic death while defending her planet. But destiny had different plans for her. The UHN forces quickly overwhelmed the Doth’Rin troops and forced them into retreat. Some human medics found her left behind slowly bleeding out in the sand. To Kal’Mina’s surprise they stopped the bleeding and brought her to a camp with many other captured Doth’Rin.

When the war was over, she was brought to a labor camp and forced to work in Kelium mines. Kal’Mina hated every second of it, but the fact that she was still alive meant that life still had something in store for her. This thought kept her going.

When new laws prohibiting forced labor were put in place, she immediately quit working at the mines and moved to the slums of Rhûn to start a new life and try her luck. Finding a proper job as a Doth’Rin was impossible in Kelepar’s apartheid regime, so Kal’Mina had to turn to the underground to earn money. She started working as a hitman for a human thug that was looking to build a mercenary company. The little team they had formed became quite successful in the slums and slowly got higher profile jobs. To Kal’Mina’s annoyance, her boss didn’t share any of the additional revenues with the team. They were forced to take on much higher risks for the same shitty salary. When the team got tasked by a Senator to kill a rich lobbyist that opposed him, Kal’Mina decided that this was her chance to finally change things. In exchange for a big paycheck she traded the information about the imminent assassionation attempt with the lobbyist. During the attack she backstabbed her team and watched them being killed by the prepared guards.

With the proceeds of her treason Kal’Mina hired a couple fellow Doth’Rin hunters and founded her own mercenary company. At some point the Doth’Rin resistance was trying to motivate Kal’Mina and her team to join their ranks. But like her, the team was not interested in fighting a hopeless war against humanity. They made it well clear that they would only join the resistance’s fight for adequate payment, which the resistance rejected. Fighting for money might not be the most heroic thing, but they were done with the heroic bullshit anyway. All that matters to them is improving their own lives.

Nowadays Kal’Mina and her team fights for anyone willing to pay. Besides brutal raids for mob bosses they’re often hired by politicians to conduct assassinations of high profile targets. To make sure she doesn’t suffer the same fate as her previous boss, Kal’Mina splits the revenues evenly amongst the entire team.

High Executioner Lucius

Lucius is part of the extremist Inquisition. He stalks the lands of Kelepar and kills anyone expressing rejection of the Imperio Dei or participating in pagan rituals.

Lucius was born into a religious family on Terra. Since he was a little boy he attended church every Sunday. The security, courage and comfort a strong belief offers him is why he is so devoted. No matter how difficult a situation is, knowing that God has put it on his shoulders because it is his destiny and ultimately part of a bigger plan, helps him to overcome anything. There was never a doubt in his mind that his life’s mission was to serve God. After high school he joined the Examplar Acadamy to become a knight of God. He aced any test he faced there due to his extreme devotion.

After graduating and receiving the title of Allegiant, Lucius was sent to Mathea, a planet where a pagan terrorist group rallied against Imperio Dei. It wasn’t for long until Lucius and his fellow Exemplars were under attack by a pagan mob that tried to burn down a monastery. The poorly trained terrorists were no match for highly skilled Exemplar warriors and so the attack was swiftly rejected.

The next day the imprisoned survivors were put in the pillory in front of the monastery to set an example and discourage further attacks. But for Lucius this wasn’t enough. Someone that attacks a holy house of God had to pay with his life. Even though killing the helpless prisoners was against the code of the Exemplar, he went up to the pillory and beheaded all of them in daylight.

Breaching the oath he swore quickly ended Lucius’ career as an Examplar. Expelled from the order Lucius didn’t know what to do with his life. Luckily, Grand Executioner Sirius heard about Lucius’ actions and recruited him for the Inquisition. An extremist like Lucius was the exact breed of people Sirius was looking for. Lucius became a loyal and reliable Executioner for the inquisition. Without remorse he hunted down and executed people that expressed rejection of the Imperio Dei or participated in pagan rituals on Mathea.

After humanity had conquered Kelepar, Sirius promoted Lucius to High Executioner for his loyal services and trusted him with the task of being his right hand in leading the inquisition on the new colony.

Captain Ennyo

Ennyo is the leading investigator of the UHN secret service. He despises the Doth’Rin people and is known for his brutal interrogation techniques. He is highly effective at the job and gathered information that prevented many Doth’Rin terrorist attacks.

Captain Ennyo is an investigator of the UHN secret service and military police. He was ordered to Kelepar shortly after the successful invasion to capture Doth’Rin that broke the laws and interrogate against possible plots.

Besides humans, Ennyo respects only dogs and horses. Those animals have been loyal friends to humanity all throughout history. Every other species though is worthless in his mind, even cats. It’s of no surprise that Ennyo holds very little regard for the Doth’Rin. He sees them as dirt, only useful as slaves.

In the early days after the invasion, most of Ennyo’s work consisted of finding Doth’Rin prisoners of war that had escaped the labor camps. Ennyo enjoyed these early days. Hunting the fugitive Doth’Rin reminded him of hunting deer and boars on Terra, which used to be one of his favorite hobbies.

Since the resistance has formed, Ennyo’s work changed massively. He now spends a lot of time investigating in the slums and interrogating Doth’Rin prisoners to find out what they have planned. The fun hunts in the dunes he certainly misses, but interrogating captured Doth’Rin allows him to live his sadistic fantasies. These interrogations and the satisfaction in saving human lives by avoiding terrorist attacks make up for the missing hunts. Torturing Doth’Rin prisoners is a real pleasure to Ennyo and the body parts he cuts off make formidable food for his dogs.

Ennyo’s extreme political stance and brutal interrogation techniques led to a couple disputes with the higher UHN command. It’s not that they cared about the fate of Doth’Rin prisoners, but inhuman interrogation techniques lead to bad publicity. Consistently hiding his interrogations from the public was a real pain. Yet, the emergence of the resistance has brought the UHN under extreme pressure and Ennyo’s success was undisputed. So despite the headaches he caused he was worth the effort.

Ennyo’s biggest success was uncovering the position of Chieftain Zal’Tar. This allowed the UHN special forces strike team led by Captain Haley to take out the key resistance commander and avoid an attack on Zalad — Kelepar’s second most important city.

His successes’ should have long earned him a promotion. But the high command wouldn’t let that happen. The more power Ennyo would get, the harder dealing with him would be. Ennyo himself isn’t too mad that he doesn’t get what he deserves. As a major he would be condemned to do mostly office work and he much prefers the hands-on work he gets to do now.

Captain Haley

Born into a proud military family, the UHN Navy was always Haley’s destiny. She is the captain of the special forces team that took out a crucial Doth’Rin leader and prevented a major attack, which made her a hero to the UHN Navy.

Haley is the daughter of Lord General Elijah Wilkins. Born into a proud military family she never had another choice but to join the UHN Navy. Every Wilkins had been a highly decorated commander of the UHN forces and so should she. Haley did not care, happily she followed the footsteps of her father and grandfather.

After finishing the military academy, Elijah assigned his daughter to the field army of his trusted friend and right hand Lord Commander Li Shing. He knew the experienced and wise strategist would teach Haley everything she’d have to know to eventually become a successful commander herself. Haley had always liked Li. He was a close friend to her family and like an uncle to her.

As a quick learner Haley absorbed Li’s wisdom like a sponge and proved to be courageous on the battlefield. What made her special though was her talent in using the supernatural powers of Kelium to manipulate the elements. Like her mentor Li, Haley learned to unleash devastating lightning storms on enemies.

Haley outperformed her mostly male counterparts on almost every occasion which led to a lot of jealousy and accusations of favoritism among her peers. Her supreme performances let Haley climb the ranks quickly and got her assigned to the UHN Navy special forces. There she soon became a captain and took the lead of her own strike team.

When Captain Ennyo managed to locate the position of the Doth’Rin leader Zal’Tar in the slums of Rhûn, the UHN Navy had to prepare a difficult mission. Most of the slum’s population is armed and doesn’t hold the UHN in high regard. Yet as tensions were running high any innocent victims could spiral out of control into a revolution and a massive wave of violence. Li knew that Haley was the perfect fit for such a mission and so she was tasked to eliminate the target and secure data about a planned attack.

Haley didn’t disappoint. The raid on Zal’Tar was quick, deadly and without civilian victims. Thanks to this successful preemptive strike, the UHN navy could avoid a massive Doth’Rin attack and save many lives. This achievement made Haley a hero to the UHN Navy and a huge inspiration to many other female marines.
